It was the client's wish to represent the immune system as an army of robots, fighting a delicate topic head on and with an approachable and hopeful yet proactive air. I added monsters for the other side and suggested bookending the film in a hospital environment so we could come back to the human patient at the end.

On visuals, I started with fully textured representations of the cells as they could appear in a medical textbook, and imagined a doctor/researcher doodling faces on them to express their hopes and fears driving them on in their work.

Viewers can easily shy away from the C-word. I hope I succeeded in helping some take the plunge, press the play button and learn more about a topic we all wish we didn't have to know about. But we do. The more we know, the better we can fight it.
