THE BIOMIMICRY INSTITUTE
"The Future of Food | How This ECO Friendly Innovation will Save the Planet by Mimicking Honey Bees"
Reliance on honeybees for commercial pollination presents major challenges for growers, especially as local pollinator populations decline. To address this, the pioneering startup BloomX has developed devices like the Robee and Crossbee to mimic the different pollination strategies of bees, like bumble bees’ buzz pollination and honey bees’ electrostatic pollination. By embracing such technology, we can reduce dependence on commercial honeybees, mitigate disease spread, and ensure abundant food production for the future.
BloomX was selected as a finalist for the 2022 Ray of Hope Prize.
The Ray of Hope Accelerator (formerly Prize) supports nature-inspired solutions addressing the world's biggest environmental and sustainability challenges.
I got to tell the finalist’s stories in colour and motion here, to be used by the startups, the institute, news outlets and educational institutions as part of their curriculum.
It was a joy to learn about the incredible scope of biomimicry and the variety of clever innovations coming out of learning from nature.
