THE BIOMIMICRY INSTITUTE
"A Sustainable Solution for the Chemical Industry (Inspired by Nature)"
Traditional processes of chemical production often rely on the use of catalysts that need high temperatures and pressures to work - but ants can produce formic acid using enzymes, and they work at ambient temperature! What if we could make chemical production sustainable, inspired by nature?
With this mindset, startup Anodyne Chemistries has created a new bioelectric manufacturing process to produce chemicals more efficiently and sustainably than the leading thermochemical process.
Anodyne Chemistries was selected as a finalist for the 2022 Ray of Hope Accelerator (formerly Prize), which supports nature-inspired solutions addressing the world's biggest environmental and sustainability challenges.
This is one of 8 films I created for the 2022 cohort of RoH finalists (and 9 films for the 2020 cohort).
It was a joy to learn about the incredible scope of biomimicry and to get to showcase the variety of clever innovations coming out of learning from nature.
